Adorable Things Your Dog Will Do This Month

December 1, 2023

Season’s Greetings! Many of us are already looking forward to enjoying those traditional events, festivities, and foods with our loved ones. As it turns out, our canine buddies also have some things on their agendas for the next few weeks. A local New Albany, IN vet lists a few of the cuter ones in this article.

Beg For Snacks

Fido will definitely pay attention as those delicious dishes start coming out of the oven. (He’s also happy to help with taste tests.) There’s nothing wrong with giving your pup something special, as long as you stick with safe options. Never give your pooch grapes and raisins; garlic and onions; scallions; avocado; chocolate; alcohol; caffeine; meat on the bone; raw dough; or anything containing xylitol. Limit fatty treats, like bacon, sausage, and those cocktail weiners your aunt always brings.

What can you offer your furry best friend? Plain, boneless meat, fish, or poultry are always safe  bets. You can also try your hand at making something. In fact, here’s an easy dog nog recipe: Mix sodium-free broth with plain, fat-free yogurt, a jar of baby food, and two eggs. Use a blender or frother to make it frothy, and top with a dog treat. (Note: make sure the baby food contains only safe ingredients.)

Play With New Gifts

Don’t forget to put something under the tree for your furry pal. Toys and treats are always great gifts for dogs. Fido may also enjoy a new bed, supplements, paw balm, or grooming supplies.

Investigate New Things

Keep Fido in mind as you decorate. Put anything that could be dangerous out of paws’ reach. That includes small or sharp objects, such as ornaments, ornament hooks, and manger pieces; ropy or stringy items, like garlands and tinsel; and many plants, such as poinsettias, holly, ivy, and mistletoe. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Pose For Photos

We never get tired of seeing cute holiday pictures of our furry patients. Snap some pictures of Fido looking adorable before the tree. (Tip: try choosing a setting that blurs the background out.)

Charm Guests

Are you having company over during the holidays? Give your canine buddy a bath and brushing before they arrive. You want Fido to put his best paw forward! We’d also recommend washing your pup’s bedding and blankets, and thoroughly dusting and vacuuming.
